On Tuesday, the whole school, Parents, Staff, Farmers, Hokianga Health care, Seniors, and Juniors went to a local farm on Picadilly Road to plant Native trees and traveled by two buses and two vans.

First, we had Karakia at school with Rm 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, and the Teachers and Aunty Mere, and then Miss Simeon put us into groups of five or 4. My leader was Nikris.

Secondly, we went down to Picadilly Road to the local farm to plant the Native trees. Matua Chris taught us how to grow the Native trees.

Here are the five steps to follow.

1: Grab 1 Fertiliser and 1 spade.

2: Find a patch of brown grass with a loose plant.

3: Dig your spade into that brown patch of grass, then move it forward and back until you get a deep and wide hole.

4: Put the Fertiliser into the dirt, then put the plant in gently.

5: Press around the plant with your heel on your foot with hard pressure.

After that, we walked to the Gassebo and sat on the tapolins to eat morning tea and then we went back to plant more and more until there was none left but when we were all finished the Juniors( Rm 1, 2 and 3) came and there was no more left so they didn´t have anything to do there.

Lastly, we walked back to the top of the local farm and waited for the two buses and the two vans so we could get back to school. The Juniors went back on the two vans, and the Parents went back on their cars, and the Seniors and Teachers went back on the two buses. When the second bus came back, Rm 5 and 6 filled it up, and 8 of Rm 7 then my friend and I found two spare seats, and I ran like my life depended on it.

What I enjoyed about the trip was that I finally know how to plant and I can now teach my family.
